Every time I look at the Eiffel Tower, it completely blows my mind - Brian Fallon (American political activist)

The Eiffel Tower, the most popular attraction in Paris turns 130 this year.

The Eiffel Tower has been a symbol of Paris, France, originally constructed as a temporary structure by Gustave Eiffel in 1889 for the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution and it’s building was met with opposition stating the tower was a threat to the aesthetic nature of Paris. Viewed as magnificent and iconic this structure was once described as “ungainly” that would disfigure the city. The concerns proved to be unfounded, attracting more than 200 million visitors, even more during the 1900 Universal Exposition
and served many a purpose during the First World War for military communications and finally as a permanent radio antenna tower.
Every year approximately 7 million visitors climb the tower, easily recognized in pictures by most people. The Paris skyline wouldn’t be the same without it and many countries have replicated the tower more or less identically to the original including China, Macau, Las Vegas, and Japan. Paris, Texas has a version with a cowboy hat.
