I've been a big fan of hers for years, but sorry to say I was an adult before discovering this amazing talent who was also a staunch activist. Her natural ability as an artist was discovered at an early age and although she planned a career as a classical pianist she found work in nightclubs which required her to sing. Upon finding her voice and gift of storytelling, she used her platform and growing popularity to fight for social injustice.
Having recorded over 40 albums her songs are so profound, it's impossible to not be moved when hearing her play and sing.
The Netflix movie, What Happened Miss Simone was beautiful, informative, entertaining, and heartbreaking. I had no idea of her struggles with abuse, mental disorders, and homelessness. If you haven't seen it and like her music, please do.
