It's as much fun to scare as to be scared - Vincent Price (American actor)

There was a time that my friends and I lived for Halloween

We started our costumes months in advance. We went all out, and hit the streets only to discover year after year, most of the Halloween parties attended we'd be the only ones in costumes. Some of the favorites I did over the years were a gangster with a machine gun that shot bubbles, the Bride of Frankenstein, and Medusa, which included a giant snake with a zippered mouth for a purse. I have pics stored (hard copies, this was pre digital), just not motivated enough to go look for them so you'll have to take my word for it. These days not only do I not bother to dress up for work or parties, I don't even decorate or give out candy. Just too busy. However my love for Halloween movies is as strong as ever. These are my top three.

The lovely Miss M aka Bette Midler is a superstar in all she does, which is why Hocus Pocus (1993) is one of my favorite movies any time of the year. I don't remember how I discovered it but was hooked after the return of the Sanderson Sisters 300 years after they were hanged as witches.

My friends and I saw Nightmare before Christmas at the movies the night it released in 1993. I'm a big fan of Tim Burton, musicals, and stop motion animation so this movie combines many of my favorite things. I play the soundtrack year round, the best song being Oogie Boogie's where the Boogie Man sees Santa Claus for the first time. So it's great for Christmas too!

I was a fan of the Vampire genre back in the 80's, long before the Twilight franchise and was highly offended about Tom Cruise being cast as Lestat in the "Interview with the Vampire" movie. Stuart Townsend, in Queen of the Damned (2002) was, in a word, perfect! Technically this isn't a Halloween movie but still great to watch this time of year. In spite of taking artistic license and combining and changing the order of the Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles it was extremely well done and Aaliyah's best movie (IMO).

  1. Yeah, Halloween was fun and so were horror movies. Now...I can't. Aaliyah= #abgoals
